Scalp AcneScalp acne, or Scalp Folliculitis, is a skin disorder that causes inflamed hair follicles. These pustules are small, and sometimes itchy. Because of the itching sensation, it is common to scratch at the acne, causing the pustule to break open and spread the acne furthermore. It is not uncommon for scalp acne to be sore or to sting. What is the cause of scalp acne? The leading causes of scalp acne, and other acne, are bacteria and oil. Yeasts and mites can also be scalp acne causes. It is also thought that great stress can lead to breakouts of acne on the forehead and scalp. In most cases, scalp acne is the direct result of not washing your hair for a long period of time. It has also been found that many hair products have an overabundance of oil – which is a cause of scalp acne. How can I prevent scalp acne? Usually, scalp acne can be cleared up by using a mild shampoo. It is often suggested to use an over the counter anti-bacterial shampoo or antidandruff shampoo. Oily hair is the leading cause of scalp acne, so try and find a shampoo for oily hair. As we said before, try to avoid hair car products that contain great amounts of oil. Also, we mentioned that mites can cause scalp acne, so make sure you clean your bedding and pillow cases regularly. Sometimes you can get rid of scalp acne by simply using a special shampoo. There are other topical and oral medications that can be taken to clear up scalp acne. You need to see a dermatologist to be prescribed for most of these medications, but if you would like to take a more natural approach to clearing up your scalp acne, take a look at our article about scalp acne treatment. |
